The department most feared by other members within the Bureau; an elite squad composed entirely of powerful Espers. Their name signifies absolute control and suppression, and, as such, they possess numerous operational privileges. They are typically deployed for major Anomaly disasters, high-level Anomaly appearances, or in pursuit of the most dangerous Anomaly-related criminals. There are 7 squads total. Apart from the 2 squads stationed near headquarters, the remaining squads are each assigned to branch offices in different cities.

According to the Director's allocation strategy, ETD squads are generally built around a particularly outstanding type of ability or a unified common trait. A squad is initially established with 2 members, then expanded to 4 members as circumstances allow.
